So Cal adventure/vacation ideas CHEAP?
Okay heres the situation:
4 of us friends want to do a vacation. Problem is we’re dirt poor! We live in Southern California LA area and want to get away for a couple of days. One of my friends really likes to rough it (camping, living off the land) but my other two friends are looking for something with a touch more luxury(at least a hotel perhaps).
We however all love quirky adventures or seeing sights, hiking, snorkeling, whatever. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
(we have a car, were looking to drive somewhere, not fly)
Why not compromise? Here is what I would do, first give yourself a little more time. Secondly, here would be my road trip…. I too am quirky, I like history, roughin it, but a nice hotel can be a welcome thing. Drive to Vegas, get a decent room, do some gambling and drinking. From Vegas drive to Goldpoint, Nevada. It’s a ghost town that is in a preserved state of decay. Here you can rent a cabin. They have a functioning bar, site-seeing trips etc. Here is the link http://www.goldpointghosttown.com/. From there I would go North, you have many options. Go to Reno, Lake Tahoe or Virginia City. All have various options for fun and you have your choice if you want to camp or stay in a hotel. It is out past the Black Rock Desert where the notorious Burning Man Festival is held. They have a number of options, you can camp, stay in there bunkhouse or rent one of the cabins. They serve breakfast and dinner and the meals are fantastic (and huge). This is a working cattle ranch, so you can rent horses, etc. There are hot springs here and the beautiful High Rock Canyon is nearby if you have a sturdy 4×4.
