last minute travel deals?
my husband and i want to go on vacation to the carribean this fall. specifically thanksgiving weekend b/c that’s whats best for us as far as work and childcare. we are wondering if last minute travel deals are always better than booking in advance PRICE wise, not super picky about specific amenities or luxury anything. online pricing, it seems that as of right now, jamaica seems to be the cheapest, but we always hear that last minute deals are awesome, just don’t know if thanksgiving weekend might actually be MORE expensive or less expensive compared to other weekends. my thinking is that most people fly home to random places in middle america, rather than fly out to vacation destinations??? or might there be many of us hoping for the same deal?
The long weekend does lead many people to go on Caribbean vacations during Thanksgiving. It still isn’t as busy as December through January, but there will be other people escaping to the islands with you.
Most resorts in the Caribbean have good prices until about mid-December. If you find a good deal, I would book it now instead of waiting. Booking before the end of August and traveling before mid-December is a pretty good recipe for low prices.
Booking last minute has risks involved. Resorts usually won’t offer low prices directly, but they often dump their open rooms into services such as Hotwire. These services allow you to book a resort of a certain category, but you won’t know what resort you are going to until you get your last minute information from Hotwire.
Since you are traveling before the high season in the Caribbean, book now if you find a good deal and leave the last minute experiment for when you have a chance to travel during the more expensive time of year.
