Questions about Island Village and Treasure Hunt Casino, Ocho Rios?

I will be going to the Island Village Mall in Ocho–how far is Treasure Hunt from there. Is it a nice place? Do they pay winnings in American or Jamaican currency? ALSO, does anyone know what days the cruise ships ARE NOT unloading passengers at Island Village?

Treasure Hunt is directly across the street & down the street about 1 city bloc from Island Village. Its an ok place, nothing to write home about…mostly one arm bandits ( named for good reason ) and if use Jamaican or US currency, you’ll be paid in that, but tokens are used on the machines.

The cruise ships don’t unload AT Island Village, its done at the port a few blocks away, but the passengers have to walk by the village so most will stop in there 1st. Don’t know the ships schedule.

Jamaican Patois

Jamaican Patois

$81.25

Jamaican Patois, known locally as Patois (Patwa) or Jamaican, and called Jamaican Creole by linguists, is an EnglishAfrican creole language spoken primarily in Jamaica and the Jamaican diaspora. It is not to be confused with Jamaican English nor with the Rastafarian use of English. The language developed in the 17th century, when slaves from West and Central Africa were exposed to, learned and nativized the vernacular and dialectal forms of English spoken by their masters: British English and Hiberno English. Jamaican Patois features a creole continuum (a linguistic continuum) meaning that the variety of the language closest to the lexifier language (the acrolect) cannot be distinguished systematically from intermediate varieties (collectively referred to as the mesolect) nor even from the most divergent rural varieties (collectively referred to as the basilect). Jamaicans themselves usually refer to their dialect as patois, a French term without a precise linguistic definition. Significant Jamaicanspeaking communities exist among Jamaican expatriates in Miami, New York City, Toronto, Hartford, Washington, D.C., Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama (in the Caribbean coast), and London. This documentary takes a look at the Jamaican Railway System, a railroad that worked the Banana Boat Steam Train’s 63 mile run until 1992. The documentary traverses its tracks, which climb to heights as impressive as 800 feet, and also takes a behind-the-scenes look at the movie The Mercenaries, which depicts the railroad. ~ Cammila Albertson, Rovi
