do you pay a deposit on flights, hotels etc when you book or full balance?

first time we have thought about booking our big holiday to florida hopefully end of next year, i was wondering how much you pay upfront roughly and when you have to pay the full balance as obviously we need time to save up! we will be booking a villa seperatly but need flights for 2adults 2children.

If you book a package holiday through a travel agent, you normally pay about 20% deposit with the remainder 8 weeks prior to departure.

If you’re booking the flights and hotel separately, you normally have to pay for the flights in full at the time of booking, with the hotels being paid in full by 8 weeks prior to departure.

In any case, if you’re taking out travel insurance, this has to be paid in full at the time of booking. This allows the travel insurance to take effect immediately. You’re only covered for the dates you’re actually on holiday but you’re also covered for certain events which may force you to cancel your holiday e.g. ill health which isn’t related to pre-existing medical conditions.
