In disney world on the jungle cruise ride, does anyone know what the deal with the tarantula is?

I read in a book to ask one of the cast members about the tarantula in a cage before you go on the ride. What happens?

There is a tarantula in a cage before you board the Jungle Cruise. When you go through the turnstiles and are waiting to board the boat, look for it. There is a hidden button that makes the spider & it’s cage move & shake. It scares people who are looking closely into the cage to see whats in there, and can be really funny.

It used to just be that cast members pushed the button to scare guests. Now so many guests know about the button, that often they will find it and push it themselves.
