Looking for hidden cruise discounts..?
Ive been told that you can get as much as 10% off for prepaying cruise in full at time of booking, and ive been told you can get a discount if you prepay gratuities at time of booking.. Does anyone know if this is true or if there is some other way to get discounts also. Am about to book a 7day cruise on carnival for august 30th.
I have been on about 20 cruises and have 3 booked right now and I can tell you that the “10% discount for full payment” is NOT TRUE. When you book a cruise, and I have been on 4 different cruise lines, you pay a minimum deposit of between $250 and $350 per person, depending upon the cruise line and the price of the cruise that you select does NOT change if you pay in full at booking. The best way to get a discount is to book early and that means 9 to 12 months or more before the cruise date. So if you are looking for the best price look for a cruise in the Spring or Summer of 2009.
Cruise lines do discount certain cruises and you can find those discounted cruises on the cruise line web sites. If you are flexibly on your travel date you can sometimes find a cruise date where the fare is $200 or more less for the exact same 7 day cruise. Last year we went on a cruise that was about $250 per person cheaper because it departed on Mother’s day. Carnival and Royal Caribbean have great web sites for finding these deals or specials.
Neither do you get a discount by prepaying gratuities. Neither the price of the cruise nor the amount of the gratuities is discounted by pre-paying.
