Can anyone advise me of any good Baltic cruises from UK?
I want to go for a cruise on a Baltic Sea but i am not sure which company has the best offers that will not cost a fortune. I am looking for short cruises departing from UK
You can pick up the Norwegian Jewel in Dover. You will sail to Copenhagen (Denmark), Warnemeunde (port for Berlin, Germany), Tallinn (Estonia), St. Petersburg (Russia), Helsinki (Finland), returning to Dover. And if you’ve never been to Dover, get the daypass for the bus and travel around the area to places like Canterbury. Well worth it.
The cruise lasts 10 or 12 days and there are several sea days. It’s a good cruise – I did it last July.
Most ports are walking distance the city. If you want to go to Berlin, arrange a shore excursion, either by bus or by train. Don’t rent a car -too much trouble. Visit the Brandenburg Gate and the New Parliament, Walk around the city and enjoy the sights.
Copenhagen, Helsinki and Tallin are all a good walk from the ship. We toured these cities on our own. Get a guidebook from your local library or go on the internet to see what would be of interest to you.
In St. Petersburg, I suggest you take shore excursions. You need a visa granted by the Russian government, and if you don’t get one you won’t be permitted to leave the ship. Even if you have the visa, you may encounter difficulties at customs. Again, this is not worth the trouble.
While in St. Petersburg, take the excursions to the Hermitage Museum and Peterhof. Peterhof is an absolute must-see and the excursion is well worth the cost. I didn’t do the evening folklore excursion, but I heard it was fantastic. The Neva River cruise was okay, but only if you haven’t done other sightseeing tours.
Go onto NCL’s website to get more info. Take a look at their shore excursion packages. It will give you a good idea what you can see and do in each port.
