Cruiseline for quality but not pretention?
We’ve been on Princess and enjoyed it, and on Carnival and been disappointed. We don’t want to dress up. We just want to hang out and enjoy good food, good amenitites, good service.
We’re debating on a 3 day cruise to nowhere out of Tampa on Holland America. Would you recommend this cruise line for us? Any others.
The drawback to Princess is the lack of shorter cruisers.
Holland is a great line – but very “traditional” and also classy. You would not be comfortable not dressing for dinner on Holland. They do have good food, service and ambiance. Their passengers tend to be older and more “mature”, especially on cruises longer than seven days, but there will be a mix of ages – just not a lot of kids unless it’s vacation time.
Celebrity is also a good line. It’s a bit more “active” than Holland, but just as classy and almost as traditional. You would also want to dress for dinner on this line. They do have four or five-day cruises on the Century, one of their older, but recently refurbished, ships. I’ve sailed on Century twice and loved it, but that was before it was refurbished and they took out the wonderful T-pool….
Celebrity’s new ships – Solstice and Equinox [and, soon, Eclipse] are said to be fabulous ships. I’m looking forward to a trip on one of them someday.
Azamara is supposedly a very good line, but I’m not sure whether they are more informal than Celebrity or HAL. They are more expensive than either.
I suggest you go to CruiseCritic.com, click on “Boards” and then “Member Reviews” to read about these ships. Or, click on “Cruise Styles” for descriptions of the demographics each ship/line appeals to.
