Is there a real strategy to get cheap plane tickets?
Just so you know, looking for flights to Mexico. Because I know domestic flights are cheaper.
I once heard airlines offer cheaper prices on Wednesdays, I’ve also heard to order as soon as possible, and some others that I really doubt. I’m currently using KAYAK to look for tickets and it seems promising.
So yeah, is there really anyway to guarantee cheap flights? Or is it mostly luck?
I have purchased tickets every day of the week and there is absolutely no difference. That particular myth abound for almost every day of the week.
Kayak and other price comparison sites are great. They will hunt down the spread of possible airlines and fares on your route. What they do not do is guarantee the cheapest fares. Always check with the airline’s own website to see if they are any cheaper.
Buy as far in advance as you can. Airlines release tickets in batches and the cheapest are released about ten months prior to travel.
Avoid school and public holidays (with the exception of Christmas Day itself which can be very cheap) as prices are at their highest at these peak travel periods.
If you see a good fare grab it. If you wait a day there is a good chance the fare will have gone up as that batch is sold out and new, higher price seats are released.
Don’t rely on there being a sale. There is no guarantee and as the travel date approaches not only will the price have soared but availability may have gone.
