Can’t choose between cruises, Celebrity or Princess?
Can’t choose between each of these cruises. Both are out of San Juan in January. The Princess (Caribbean Princess) is hitting St Thomas, Barbados, St Lucia, Antigua, and Tortola… while the Celebrity (Summit) is hitting the same islands but you get St Maarteen instead of Tortola.
Here’s the dilemma. I’ve been to other BVI islands and Tortola doesn’t seem as nice. I always wanted to see St Maarten. Both cruises are around the same price, but I just don’t have good feelings about the Celebrity one. Ship seems older and heard some bad reviews on it. Plus on the Princess you get about an hour more each day over Celebrity, this equates to 4.5hrs spent over the total trip at all of the ports (A good half day more).
Has anyone cruised with celebrity before?
I have cruised both Princess and Celebrity, both 3 times. I have also been to both Tortola and St Maarten and the later is much better. I think it is much better because it has better beaches from what I saw. But since you will be doing other islands with good beaches missing St Maarten this time may not be a big deal; catch it next time.
Yes Summit as I recall is one of Celebrity’s older ships and while I am sure it is well maintained an older ship can make a difference on your cruise. SO while I like Celebrity as much or even more than Princess it’s my suggestion to go with the newer Princess ship. If you have a 7 day cruise and you’ll be making 5 port stops, you may be tired by the time you get to Tortola and not even want to go ashore.
If you want to do a great Celebrity cruise in the Caribbean go on the Solstice or Eclipse, both brand new ships.
