How can I get to Antarctica without paying thousands of dollars for a “cruise”?
I’m a backpacker, and I will be in New Zealand from Feb 2011, and I would like to take a trip to the Antarctic if it is do-able and financially viable.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
There are no tourist facilities anywhere in Antarctica so, as a tourist, you can’t just visit. The only way to see Antarctica is to take a properly organised cruise. These cruises also only take place during the Antarctic summer, between November and March, as this is the only time the ships can get through the ice safely.
