I am looking for suggestions for things to do in Anchorage, Alaska …?
I will only be there a day and a half in June. I would like to take a whale-watching cruise and possibly some other nature sightseeing tour. But any suggestions are welcome! (I don’t golf and don’t am not interested in shopping – I love photography, so anything I can photograph would be ideal!)

To get the maximum out of your trip, I suggest that you find an air service in Anchorage that will fly you to Seward. You will see amazing things from the air, such as mountains and glaciers, and it will save you some time. In Seward, you can take a boat trip out to see whatever marine mammals are available to see, as well as sea birds, etc. Then, fly back.
If you are not able to do that, rent a car and drive to Whittier, Alaska. You get to ride through a tunnel. The scenery is great and you can arrange for a boat ride there.
Anchorage does not have a harbor as it is not an ice-free port and I have never heard of any whale-watching trips in Anchorage. If you are stuck in Anchorage, there is some nice bird watching in the area and fish in Ship Creek. You can drive north towards Palmer and the Matanuska Valley, which are very scenic.
Another option, if you have a car, is to drive north to Denali National Park. Get advance reservations on one of the buses that go into the park. Take a late evening bus or an early morning bus to see more animals. If you can, go at least as far as the Eielson Visitor’s Center to increase your chances to see Mt. McKinley. If you don’t have that kind of time, then just drive to Savage River, which is as far as you can go by car. You will see great views, especially if the weather is clear. Bring your own food and drink and warm clothes for the increased elevation.
You could drive to Denali, look around a bit, and make it back to Anchorage in a day and a half. If the bus ride takes too much time, then in addition to Savage River, you can go to the sled dog demonstration and also dawdle on your way down the highway. The scenery is great. The animals are most active in early early morning and late evening. Especially watch lakes and ponds and meadows for moose and swans.
