Alaska Adventure Trip

alaska adventure trip
Long road trips, Any help would be appreciated for a LONG trip to ALASKA!?

My husband I are planning to go to ALASKA as a graduation gift for me. We have 1 yr to plan this LONG road trip and we think it’d be a great experience. We have exactly 2 weeks to go Alaska and come back. We live in South Texas and we’re planning to take about 2,500dlls, our own vehicle, our own food/ice chest, and We plan to camp wherever we decide to stop for a rest. The goal is to get to Alaska but also to experience Wyoming and Colorado.

What do you think? Is it a good idea? we could probably save more but that’s just an estimate. Mapquest says 74hrs to get there but we’re going to be making stops so i’d say 5 days (120hrs) to get there right?

Is this a good plan or is this insane?

(I’m known to like extreme and crazy things.. so no.. i’d be willing to have n adventure at all costs)

I guess you don’t plan on sleeping for 5 days???

On a trip of that calibre, you should drive no more than 10 hours or 500 miles per day. So if Mapquest says 74 hrs., you should be looking at 7 days of driving up and 7 days of driving back. And there goes your entire 2 weeks.

Travels in Alaska by Muir, John [Paperback]

Travels in Alaska by Muir, John [Paperback]

$27.81

Travels in Alaska, which John Muir was working on at the time of his death, is based on journals Muir wrote during his visits to Alaska in 1879, 1880, 1881, 1890, and 1899. From the moment he embarked from San Francisco in May, 1879, off for icy Alaska, Muir sensed he was on an extraordinary adventure. Venturing on foot, by canoe and dogsled, he experienced equal excitement discovering an unfamiliar species of flower, bird, or tree, or the spectacular Glacier Bay all of which he conveys with consummate artistry. Here also is a record of such harrowing experiences as rescuing his companion while the two hung over a thousandfoot precipice and narrowly escaping. death between grinding walls of glacial ice. Travels in Alaska culminates with Muirs vivid description of the supreme, serene, supernal beauty of Alaskan auroras observed during his penultimate trip in 1890. Men like Muir (Robert Marshall was another) continue for us the spiritual reclamation of North America. At their keenest, they evoke for us something of the freshness of an hour and a day when, before the intervention of culture, men saw the world for the first time as something wonderful and new. John Haines, from his Foreword Author: Muir, John Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 190 Publication Date: 2011/01/01 Language: English Dimensions: 7.01 x 10.00 x 0.40 inches

However, the preserve is faced with a severe budget cut that would close them down unless they can produce a living panda cub. Ryan, his father Michael (Stephen Lang), and a local girl acting as translator (Huang Fei) set out in search of a baby panda. However, when they find one, the bear is being pursued by poachers. Ryan becomes separated from the rest of the group, and he alone must guide the young panda to the safety of the preserve, with the hunters hot on his trail and without the help of his father or their translator. The Amazing Panda Adventure was shot on location in Mainland China’s Sichuan province. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi Alaska Widower Jake Barnes (Dirk Benedict) moves with his daughter and son to a fishing village in Alaska, and earns his keep as a bush pilot by ferrying supplies to remote locations throughout the state. While the daughter loves her new home, the son cannot stand it, and is impatiently waiting until he is grown up enough to move away. However, they join forces to look for their father when they learn that he has gone down in an airplane accident. The official search party is called off and Jake is assumed dead, but the children will have none of it, and go off on their own into the Alaskan wilderness. Along the way, they thwart a big-game poacher (Charlton Heston) and his sidekick, and learn about survival in the wilderness. A highlight of the film is its fine footage of wild Alaska. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi
