Traveling by Guided Tour or plan my own package to travel Alone.?
My hubby thinks i need to be around other english speaking ppl and thinks ill be safer near others, but i like the idea of doing the Adventure thing…any suggestions??

Whether you take the guided tour or not depends on your personality and preferences. Personally, I like the flexibility of traveling on my own. You can see and do the exact things that interest you and also can change your plans if you run across a local festival or event that appeals to you. The group travel requires you to do less organizing and provides someone that can explain what you’re seeing if you have questions.
When I originally moved to Italy 10 years ago, it was on very short notice and I did not know Italian. There really wasn’t any problem in getting around or in managing daily life here. In the major tourist destinations, you won’t have any trouble getting around using English; in some of the smaller towns knowing at least some Italian is useful. However, even the small city where I live now has bilingual signs on the historic buildings. There will, of course, be lots of other English speaking tourists around in June even if you are on your own – you just won’t be traveling with the same people all the time. When my daughter visits, she goes off exploring on her own during the week and visits me on the weekends and has no problem getting around – she’s off in Siena today.
Getting around here is very easy using the train system. It is useful to know Italian place names – most of them are obvious like Venezia, Roma, Milano and it’s not too hard to figure out that Firenze is Florence. Sometimes it’s a little harder to convince people that the train that says Monaco really is going to Germany. (Monaco di Bavaria = Munich).
