What is the best cruise that is for Adults Only?
My husband and I want to go on a cruise for the first time but want it to be for Adults only. Any Ideas???
So far as I know there are no cruises limited to adults. However, you can certainly find cruises with very few children on board — go during the school year — go on a cruise that is longer than 7 days — go on a relatively expensive cruise. Also, whatever cruise you take, ask for late seating for dinner, since people with children almost always choose early seating. I have been on several voyages with Cunard — one westbound crossing (7 days) , New York to LA via Panama Canal (14 days), and through the Mediterranean (16 days) — and saw very few children. The children who were on board were very well-behaved, supervised, and really very nice. I have also been on several cruises with Holland America, and there weren’t many kids there, either. Neither Holland America nor Cunard makes a big point to attract children, although both do have special programming for kids to keep the kids busy and give the parents more freedom. You will always run into lots of children with Disney, Carnival, Royal Caribbean, short cruises in the Caribbean, cruises during school holidays (summer, Christmas to New Year, and spring break), and cruises offering large discount fares. The “cruise from hell” for me was in the Caribbean on Celebrity in the spring, which had lots and lots of young kids and teenagers, who were not involved in the kids’ programming and generally not supervised by their parents. Unfortunately, crew members are extremely hesitant to try to do anything since they get yelled at by parents and can lose their jobs. Officers, who have full authority, are seldom on deck around the pools, etc.
